It's been a slow and yet challenging month of January. We haven't been able to use our oven most of the month, either the old one wasn't working right, or we couldn't find the correct kit to convert it from Natural Gas to Propane. We did however finally find one and it arrived today (I bet I know what Allen will be doing when he gets home today). I have been going through withdrawals without an oven, I didn't realize how much I use it.
I've spent my days pouring over seed catalogs and ordering seeds for summer gardening. I really can't wait to get the seeds started. It's always exciting to see the green little plants popping up from the little seed cups. I'm trying a few different vegetables this year and adding some more medicinal plants to that garden area and putting in a new flower bed in hopes of attracting the honeybees.
I found Organic Sweet Potatoes yesterday and brought them home and got them in water to start sprouting. We love sweet potatoes.
My afternoons and evenings have been spent crocheting an Afghan that turned out fabulous!
Things on the farm are also at a slow point while we wait for babies. Keeping water thawed out and fresh warm bedding in the barns for all the animals can be challenging on those frigidly cold days.
We are expecting our first lambs in the next couple weeks and then soon after that we will start having our goat kids. Yep - the farm gets pretty busy at that point and finding the energy to do it all some days is hard. But watching the babies play and jump around brings a smile to my face and my heart is full.
During all the babies being born and the milking that gets done and the garden being prepared for Spring planting, we will be trying to get our Heifer, Annabelle bred. Hopefully that goes smoothly, and she takes the first time. She is so sweet (so far) and we love her very much. We hope she will be a huge asset to our farm.
I can't wait to get back outside and get more active!
